On May 13, 2023, the nation gathered to honor the service, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of Vietnam veterans and their families with “Welcome Home: Honoring Your Legacy” — a sweeping multimedia tribute presented by the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration on the National Mall at West Potomac Park in Washington, D.C.
Lauren B. Martin served as co-host for the landmark event, joining NFL legend Joe Theismann, former ESPN anchor and Miss America 1985 Sharlene Hawkes, and Broadway star Jon Hacker. Together, they guided an audience of veterans, Gold Star families, and dignitaries through an evening of live performance, historical documentary elements, and personal tributes — anchored by special video messages from singer Lee Greenwood, film star Robert Patrick, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III, and President Joe Biden, among others.

The program featured dynamic performances from The United States Army Band, alongside vocalists Morgan Greco and Christal Rheams and the New York Tenors, with additional appearances by former POW Everett Alvarez Jr., and Medal of Honor recipient James C. McCloughan, as well as messages from prominent Americans in the entertainment, sports, business, and political realms.
The honor concert capped off a three-day public exhibition and living museum featuring speakers, historical artifacts, viewing rooms, panel discussions, interactive exhibits, and family-friendly activities, the event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War stands as one of the most significant formal tributes to veterans in modern history.
